Project overview
This project examined nuclear energy through the sustainability principles of permaculture, focusing on resource efficiency, waste management and long-term energy supply.
The report covered the nuclear fuel cycle, from uranium extraction and fuel production to spent nuclear fuel management and recycling. It also reviewed advanced reactor technologies, including small modular reactors (SMRs), fast-neutron reactors and molten-salt reactors, considering their potential advantages in fuel utilization, safety and waste reduction.
The study also explored how nuclear power can work alongside renewable energy sources and storage technologies, including applications such as district heating and industrial heat supply. Examples from France, Sweden and TerraPower were used to examine different approaches to nuclear fuel management, reactor development and sustainable energy planning.
